Blodulv where a duo from Sweden that played a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2003 album which will be re-issued on July 14th, 2023 by Ophidian Sun.
Raw tremolo picking starts off the album while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Some of the tracks are also long and epic in length along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast b eats can also be heard.
Throughout the recording you can also h ear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also adds in a great amount of mid 90's influences. All of the drum beats are also programmed along with one track also adding in a brief use of war samples and the whole recording also sticks to a very heavy and aggressive musical direction.
Blodulv played a style of black metal that was very raw and aggressive in the mid 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Death, Destruction, War, Norse Mythology and Occultism themes as well as some songs also being written in Swedish.
In my opinion Blodulv where a very great sounding raw black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Legion Murdergoat" "Waffen Blodulv" and "Greyfalls". 8 out of 10.
