Molag are a band from South Carolina that plays a very raw, satanic, vampyric and Elder Scrolls themes form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "metamorphosis Dark" which will be released in August by Fiadh Productions.
Dark sounding synths start off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. Clear singing is also utilized on a couple of songs along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain more true to an old school style while the songs also add in a lot of 90's influences. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a lot of blast beats can also be heard.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Touches of dungeon synth can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as the tremolo picking in the fast riffing also giving the music more of a raw feeling when it is utilized and the album closes with a cover of Bathory's "In conspiracy With Satan". The production sounds very dark and r aw while t he lyrics cover Satanism, Vampirism, Elder Scrolls and Anti Fascism themes.
In my opinion Molag are a very great sounding raw, satanic, vampyric and Elder Scrolls themed black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Embrace of An Immortal Spell" "Slit Your Wrists For Satan" and "Into The Saber Winds". 8 out of 10.
