Earthen Altar are a duo from the Pacific Northwest region of the United States that plays a cascadian form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2023 ep which will be released in August by Fiadh Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic and atmospheric style. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a r aw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody, clear vocals can also be heard briefly as well as one track also introducing growls into the music.
Earthen Altar plays a style of cascadian black metal that is very aggressive and melodic sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the spirits of t he landscape and creative energies of the pacific Northwest.
In my opinion Earthen Altar are a very great sounding cascadian black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Yemo". 8 out of 10.
