The Watcher are a band from Finland that plays a very melodic and old school mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Kaosaura" which will b e re-issued in September, 2023 by Spread Evil Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are a mixture of angry black metal screams and death metal growls.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also heat a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized as well as the music also adding in a lot of 90's and 2000's era influences.
The Watcher plays a musical style that takes 2000's era occult black metal and mixes it with mid 90's melodic black/death metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while t he lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferianism, Occultism and Buddhism themes.
In my opinion the Watcher are a very great sounding melodic and old school mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE 'Guru Of Hate Yoga" "Luciferian Nirvana" and "Rebellion Geometry". 8 out of 10.
