This is a review of a split album between Norway's solo projects Vorgfang and Unholy Craft called "Ulf's Keptr' which will be released in August by Purity Through Fire and we will start off the review with Vorgfang who plays a very raw and old school form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black emtal screams while synths can also be heard in the background at times along with the music also being very heavily rooted in the 90's era.
Throughout his side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a good amount of melody. as well as the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Norwegian and cover Nature and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion Vorgfang are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Iron Winter".
Next up is Unholy Craft who returns with his raw and old school style of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with battle horns before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a lot of melody and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's era.
The songs also add in a good amount of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized, clear vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover Paganism, Winter and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Unholy Craft and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rise Of the Pagan hordes" and "Tyranny Of Winter Storms".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of raw and old school Norwegian black metal. 8 out of 10.
