Nattsjäl are a b and from Sweden that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of black, viking, folk and thrash metal and this is a review of their self released 2023 album "I marors djup".
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the album along with some heavier thrash metal influenced riffing a few seconds later. Vocals are done in a more aggressive viking metal style along with some clear pagan singing also being utilized at times and female vocals are also added on some of the tracks.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a lot of melody. Spoken word parts can also b e heard briefly along with the acoustic guitars also b ringing in elements of folk music when they are utilized and synths are also added in certain sections of the recording.
Touches of black metal can also be heard in the more aggressive side of the vocals along with one song also adding in some power metal style singing as well as some blast beats also being added into the faster sections of the songs, folk instruments can also be heard on a few tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Swedish and English and cover Paganism and Viking themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nattsjäl and if you are a fan of black, viking, folk and thrash metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I marors djup" "Vargmane" and "I Am The Flame". 8 out of 10.
