New York's Yellow Eyes has returned with a new recording which shows the music keeping some of the black metal style of previous releases and mixing it with a sinister industrial folk music style with elements of symphonic dungeon synth and field recordings and this is a review of their 2023 album "Master's Murmur" which was released by Sibir Records.
Synth orientated drones start off the album along with some programmed beats and folk music elements a few seconds later. When distorted guitar sounds are utilized they also bring in touches of harsh noise along with the synths also adding in more of a dungeon synth style with symphonic overtones.
One of the songs also sticks to an instruments direction while each track also sounds very different from each other. One song also introduces black metal screams and acoustic guitars onto the recording along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized.
Clear vocals can also be heard along with some blast beats also being utilized when the music finally speeds up. Field recordings and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly as well as one track also adding in a small amount of female vocals, saxophones are also added on a couple of songs. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover nature and solitude themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Yellow Eyes and if you are a fan of experimental black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Master's Murmur" "When Jackie's Lamps Have Showered" and "Garden TrucK'. 8 out of 10.
