Herzog are a band from Belgium that plays a very raw form of black metal with elements of death metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Furnace" which will be released in November by Amor Fati Productions.
Dark soundscapes and synths start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals bring in more of a death metal style and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the songs more of a raw feeling while melodies are also brought into some of the riffs. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the tracks also mixing in a good amount of 90's influences.
Grim screams can also b e heard in certain sections of the recording along with some songs also being very long and epic in length as well as some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of dissonant touches, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in a very aggressive yet melodic style and one song is also an instrumental. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and chaos themes.
In m y opinion Herzog are a very great sounding raw black metal band with elements of death metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Acheminement" "The Craftsman" and "Oath Of I". out of 10.
