Tusenårseken are a solo project from Sweden that plays a very melodic form of black metal with elements of folk music and this is a review of his 2023 album "Mardrömsmeditationer" which will be released in December by GrindtoDeathRecords.
Clear chants and singing starts off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Grim black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can b e heard.
A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the tremolo picking in the riffing also gives the album more of a raw feeling. The album also adds in a good amount of old school touches along with some angry shouts also being utilized at times and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Clean playing, acoustic guitars and elements of folk music can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover famine, war and war magick themes.
In my opinion Tusenårseken are a very great sounding melodic black metal solo project with elements of folk music and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Glesbygdsrensning" "Närvaro i ande" and "Gudaträd". 8 out of 10.
