Luna Pythonissam are a solo project from Mexico that plays a very atmospheric and Mayan inspired form of depressive black metal and this is a review of her 2023 compilation album "Desde aqui hasta el fin de los tiempos..." which was released by Fiadh Productions.
Nature orientated soundscapes start off the compilation before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the synths also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling when they are utilized and clean playing is also added on some of the tracks.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Some of the melodies also bring in elements of post rock and shoegaze along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them as well as some tracks also adding in a decent amount of clean playing
Death metal growls are also utilized on a couple of songs along with one track also adding in a brief use of crying samples, nature sounds also return in certain sections of the compilation. Clear vocals and spoken word parts can also be heard at times and the whole compilation sticks to a slower direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while t he lyrics cover Mayan Witchcraft, Melancholy, Distress, Nostalgia and Life themes.
In my opinion Luna Pythonissam are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal solo project and if you are a fan of t his musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ansia" "Dias grises" "Catarsis" and "Novilunium". 8 out of 10.
