Sea Mosquito are a band from the United Kingdom that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for a very unorthodox, atmospheric and progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Igitur" which will be released in November by Onism Productions.
Distorted noises start off the album while spoken word parts and high pitched black metal screams can also be heard a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and at times the music also gets very progressive sounding.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with some growls also being added into certain sections of the recording and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with one track also adding in a brief use of female vocals. Clean playing is also added into some parts of the album as well as the programmed beats also giving the recording more of a militant atmosphere, synths can also be heard briefly and some of the songs are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sea Mosquito and if you are a fan of unorthodox, atmospheric and progressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "These Vanished Things" "Iron Destined For Rust" "Clothed With The Sun" and "Vexilla Regis". 8 out of 10.
