Denver, Colorado's Wayfarer has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of atmospheric post black metal, gothic country and Americana and this is a review of their 2023 album "American Gothic" which will be released on October 27 by Century Media Records.
Acoustic guitars which also return on later songs start off the album and also brings in elements of Americana and country music, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction. Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing and the vocals bring in a mixture of growls and black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style and the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats.
Keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling, clear vocals are also introduced on some of the tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the dark side of the American Dream.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Wayfarer and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Thousand Tombs Of Western Promise" "To Enter My House Justified" and "False Constellation". 8 out of 10.
