Voidescent are a band from Spain that plays a very aggressive and esoteric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Dust And Embers" which will be released on October, 13 by Avantgarde Music.
Synths and dark soundscapes start off the album along with some evil voices in the background before going into a heavier direction. All of the tracks on the album are also very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast b eats.
When tremolo picking is added into the riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Melodies can also be heard in some of the riffs along with the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
The album also has its atmospheric moments and ritualistic soundscapes along with some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly as well as a couple of songs also bringing in a brief use of clear vocals, synths also return on a later track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Esoteric, Introspection and the Mysteries Of Our Own Existence.
In my opinion Voidescent are a very great sound aggressive and esoteric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black Crowned Triangle" and "VVenom Scythe liturgy". 8/5 out of 10.
