Childslave are a solo project from Chile that plays a very raw, lo-fi, depressive and miserable form of black metal with elements of ambient and this is a review of his self titled 2024 album which was released by Elf Eggs.
Ambient style synths which also return on later start off the album while also adding in a variety of many different sounding keys before going into a heavier direction. All of the drum beats are programmed along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding depressive black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Some of the riffing also adds in a small amount of melody along with some of the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some of the tracks also being instrumentals as well as a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, at times the music also gets very lo-fi sounding and spoken words and acoustic guitars are added on the closing song. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the writings of Charles Baudelaire, Anti Christianity, Misanthropy and Suicide themes.
In my opinion Childslave are a very great sounding raw, lo-fi, depressive and miserable black metal solo project with a touch of ambient and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shave My Slavery" "From Jesus To Ala" "Hang On To My Dreams" and "i Deserve WHat I Have Suffered". 8 out of 10.
