White Baroness are a band from Finland that plays a very old school and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "War Chariots" which will be released in November by Primitive Reaction.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the mid 90's era as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and some of the music also adds in a touch of blackened thrash metal.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. At times the album also captures the raw aggression of the classic South American bands along with the music sticking to mostly a faster direction as well some mid tempo riffing also being utilized at times and the whole album also sticks to a heavier style.
White Baroness plays a style of black metal that is very raw, fast, melodic and satanic sounding in the mid 90's tradition. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism, Darkness and War themes.
In my opinion White Baroness are a very great sounding fast, raw, old school and satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical style, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lonely Cold Grave" "Six Banners Of Satan" and "Guillotine". 8 out of 10.
