IRR are a band from Switzerland that plays a mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2025 album which will b e released on October 24th as a joint effort between Berggeflvster, Monastyr Records and The Feleeing light.
A very dark y et heavy sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. Vocals are a mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also has its brutal moments. Most of the recording is also very heavily rooted in the modern era mixed in with some old school touches along with some of the guitar riffing also adding in melodies at times.
Some of the vocals also add in more of an angry shouting style and a couple of tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing as well as some clear singing also being utilized briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a bleak utopian future and the global waste trade.
In my opinion IRR are a very great sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Shallow Graves" "Crestfallen" and "Remains Remain". 8 out of 10.
