Ambrotos are a band from Greece that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a philosophical form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Cosmic Annulus" which will be released in March by Sleaszy Rider Records.
A very dark yet distorted sound starts off the ep while the riffs also add in a good amount of melody while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. All of t he musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound along with the music being heavily rooted in the 90's Greek style.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Vocals are a mixture of deep and aggressive black metal screams while also adding in some cleaner vocals briefly as well as some spoken word parts on the closing and clean playing is also added in the music briefly on a couple of songs.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also display some modern influences in some parts of the music along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length and the music also continues to expand on the style of the previous recording. The production sounds very raw yet powerful at the same time while the lyrics cover pre-Socratic Philosophy And Ideas.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ambrotos and if you are a fan of Greek black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Oracle Veracities". 8 out of 10.
