Lunatic Affliction are a band from Germany that plays a mixture of atmospheric black and cosmic death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Secreta Obscura Mysterium" which was released by Kristallblut Records.
A very ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces synths onto the recording before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in a great amount of melody along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the music also brings in a great amount of Swedish influences. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the songs also adding in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Synths are also mixed in the heavier sections of the music in some parts of the recording and also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling. Elements of death metal are also used quite a bit throughout the recording which can also be heard in the growls. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover metaphysical, occult, magick, astrology, apocalyptic and secret societies themes.
In my opinion Lunatic Affliction are a very great sounding melodic mixture of atmospheric black and cosmic death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tenebre" "Aeter Templum Aurum" and "Gloriam Mysticum Martyrium". 8/5 out of 10.
