Neanderthalensis are a solo project from Germany that plays a cascadian style of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of his self released 2018 album "Rain Over Scorched Earth".
Nature sounds start off the album along with some distorted yet melodic guitar leads a few seconds later while the bass guitar has a very powerful sound to it. All 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the drums also adding in a great amount of blast beats during the faster sections of the songs.
A great amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. When tremolo picking is utilized during the faster sections of the music they also give the songs more of a raw feeling. At times the music gets very atmospheric along with a great amount of cascadian influences.
Spoken words can also be heard briefly on a couple of tracks while the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All 3 of the tracks sound very different from each other which also gives the recording a great amount of diversity. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover political, esoteric and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Neandertalensis are a very great sounding cascadian style atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Pity Is The Worse Thing You Can Give Someone". 8 out of 10.
