Tempestarii are an anonymous musical project from Boise, Idaho that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album 'Temple Of Skies" which will be re-issued on January 18th by Mercenary Musik.
Field recordings start off the album along with some acoustic guitars being added onto the recording a few seconds later while the solos and leads bring in more of a melodic and atmospheric style. All of the tracks that are presented on the album are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also b e heard which gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim yet tortured sounding black metal screams as well as well as the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. On some of the tracks a small amount of classical guitars can also be heard and some songs also add in a few clean guitar riffs that also gives the music more of a cascadian or post black metal vibe.
As the album progresses the music also starts getting more diverse without ever losing the raw aggression that is also a very huge part of the recording. You can also hear a great amount of talent and skill in the way the instruments are preformed when they go a few minutes without using any vocals. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, metaphysical and Gnostic orientated themes.
In my opinion Tempestarii are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gaian Mind" and "Neurosis". 8 out of 10.
