Plaguehurst are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "Communionem".
Punk influenced riffing starts off the album along with some melodic guitar leads a few seconds later as well as the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling.
Acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly ona few songs while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in some dissonant structures which also gives the music a more up to date style.
At times the music also has its atmospheric moments while a couple of the songs are very long and epic in length. Rain and Thunder sounds can also be heard fro a few seconds before returning back to a rawer direction and the music also gets more diverse as the album progresses. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Darkness and Plagues.
In my opinion Plaguehurst are a very great sounding raw and old school style black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I Am The Fucking Pariah" "Braking The Armour Of Light" and "Chimes'. 8/5 out of 10.
