Repudio are a band from Brazil that plays a very raw and misanthropic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Crossing Into Darkness" which was released by Terror Music.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with the riffs also having their melodic moments at times. Vocals bring in a very tortured, grim yet high pitched style of black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's era while the guitar leads also capture of the more melodic Swedish style of that time frame as well and the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also shows more early 2000's era influences on later songs.
As the album progresses the music gets more more diverse while keeping everything raw and never straying away from a black metal style. A couple of tracks also add a small amount of acoustic guitars on the recording. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics focus on death, misanthropy, blasphemy, suicide and depression along with songs being written in both Portuguese and English.
In my opinion Repudio are a very great sounding raw and misanthropic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Funeral Absoluto" "Damned Holy Land" and "Refuge". 8 out of 10.
