Svartnad are a band from Sweden that started out of a more post black metal band but evolved into a depressive post rock band with this release and this is a review of their 2010 ep "En Studie I Ensamhet" which was released by Downfall Records.
Drum programming is all slow beats, while the synths bring a very dark and atmospheric feeling to the music with a brief use of violins which add progressive rock elements to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars when they are utilized in electrics are all slow post black metal riffs that are only used briefly while the lead guitars when they are used are very melodic sounding post black metal guitar leads, as for the acoustic they use alot of finger picking and full chords to bring a very depressive post rock feeling to the music.
Vocals are mostly clean singing male vocals with some female vocals, spoken word parts and a brief use of high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics cover nature, life in general and philosophy with all of the songs being written in Swedish, as for the production it has a well produced sound and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Svartnad are a very great sounding depressive atmospheric/post black metal/post rock band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Amfetamin" and "Vinterriket". RECOMMENDED BUY.
