Isebel are a duo from Sweden that plays a very fast, melodic, atmospheric and old school form of Swedish black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 ep "The Maleficent Correlation".
An ambient synth orientated intro starts off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly high pitched black emtal screams.
A great amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's Swedish style along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length as well as some synths also mixing in with the heavy parts briefly.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with one track also adding in a few seconds of clean guitars. The production sounds very dark, raw and heavy sounding while the lyrics cover esoteric, anti human and apotheosis themes.
In my opinion Isebel are a very great sounding fast, melodic, atmospheric and old school Swedish black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hosianna - Divination Of Cinders" and "Tricalyth Fulcrum". 8 out of 10.
