Malokarpatan are a band from Slovakia that plays black metal with some ambient and psychedelic elements and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Cesta podzemnymi salami Kovovlada" which will be released in April by Sun & Moon.
A very dark and ritualistic sound starts off the ep along with some ambient, avant garde and psychedelic style soundscapes before going into more of a heavier direction on the second part of the track but also mixing the elements of the first part into the heavier sections of the music.
Vocals are done in mostly an old school black metal style that is equally influenced by both the first and second wave eras of the genre along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody as well as the music sticking to mostly a mid tempo direction as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in an old school style.
Malokarpartan plays a style of black metal that is heavily rooted in the classic era while also adding in elements from other musical genres, to create something very original. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Slovakian and cover the mythological theme of Kovovlad-master of the underworld and all of it's treasures, who abducts a maiden from the world above to become his bride.
In my opinion Malokarpatan are a very great sounding black metal band with elements of ambient and psychedelia and if you are looking for something that is very original sounding, you should check out this ep. 8 out of 10.
