Whore Of Babylon are a solo project from Australia that plays a mixture of raw, dissonant black metal, ritualistic dark ambient and harsh noise and this is a review of his 2019 demo "Chapter 1: Devoation, Adoration, Invocation" which was released by Akashic Envoy Records.
Dark sounding style synths start off the demo along with some atmospheric and ritualistic sounding drones also being utilized at times. On the second track the music goes into a very direction while also introducing grim black metal screams as well as some dissonant structures and they also keep the dark ambient elements of the first track.
Guitar solos and leads are also added into some parts of the music while the riffs also add in a small amount of dark sounding melodies. A touch of doom/death metal can also be heard in some of the slower riffing while elements of harsh noise are also added into some parts of the music, whispers and clean playing can also be heard on the closing track.
Whore Of Babylon plays a musical style that takes raw, dissonant black metal, ritualistic dark ambient and harsh noise and mixes them together to create a sound of his own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Hekate the goddess of witchcraft and magick, and the arcane knowledge of the Hermetica attributed to Hermes Trismegistus and the Clavicula Salomonis.
In my opinion Whore Of Babylon are a very great sounding mixture of raw, dissonant black metal, ritualistic dark ambient and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Saba-Azhaka" and "Nchaund-Zel". 8 out of 10.
