Waldgefluster are a band from Germany that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Mondscheinsonaten" which will be released in April by Nordvis Produktion.
Field recordings start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds alter which also adds in elements of folk music in the songs they are utilized in. Clean pagan vocals are also brought into the music at times while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Vocals are mostly grim yet black metal screams along with a few growls while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic post metal style and also add in touches of shoegaze at times. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs as well as the riffs also bringing in a great amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard along with some tracks also adding in some folk instruments.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Keyboards are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording and also enhance the more atmospheric side of the music and the album closes with a bonus acoustic track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover Nature and Heathendom themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Waldgefluster and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal with elements of folk music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Der Steppenwolf" "Und der Wind" and "Staub in der Lunge". 8 out of 10.
