Nar are a solo project from Malta that plays a very melodic, narrative and riff driven form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2020 album "Blood Moon Omen" which will be released on November 28th.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some whispered voices in the background while also adding in a brief use of synths before going into a very fast and raw musical direction. The riffs also add in a great amount of melody as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the riffs also adding in a lot of melodies as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
Synths also return on some of the later songs also also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling and as the album progresses a brief use of clean playing can also be heard as well as one track also adding in a brief use of movie samples and the recording also closes with n instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover failures of mankind, dysfunctions in the fabric of society, mythology and the personal quest for good and evil.
In my opinion Nar are a very great sounding melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Winds Of Decimation" "Rabid Earth" and "Under The Great Eye". 8 out of 10.
