Ravendust are a solo project from Switzerland that plays a very traditional form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Ultragod" which was released by Wolfmond Production.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the music along with one of the songs also being an instrumental track.
A couple of interludes also adding in a brief use of acoustic guitars which also return on a couple of later songs, keyboards, operatic chants and ritualistic drums before returning back to a heavier direction as well as some of the tracks also being long and epic in length, clean playing can also be heard an a few songs towards the end The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Ravendust are a very great sounding traditional black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Soldier' "Ancestors" and "Silence". 8 out of 10.
