This is a review of a split album between Russia's Esipram and Mexico's The Depressick called "Isolation Among Urban Misery" which was released by Wolfmond Production and we will start off the review with Esipram a depressive form of post black metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very powerful sounding bass guitar while the clean playing and synths also brings in elements of psychedelia and post rock. Spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of songs as well as adding in a good amount of grim yet depressive black metal screams.
The synths also giving the songs more of an atmospheric feeling when they are utilized along with one of the songs also adding in a brief use of clean vocals and nature sounds as well as all of the drum beats being programmed. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover depressive themes.
In my opinion Esipram are a very great sounding mixture of depressive black metal and post rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Distanced" and "Lonely Dance".
Next up is The Depressick a solo project that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of post black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with tragic sounding keyboards while spoken word parts can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The music also starts going into more of a heavier and melodic direction on the second track along with the solos and leads also adding in a great amount of melody.
Depressive black metal screams can also be heard quite a bit throughout their side of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them as well as the clean sections also adding in elements of post rock, programmed beats can also be heard on the closing track. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover sorrow, hate, melancholy, feelings and urban life themes and a couple of the songs titles are also in Russian.
In my opinion The Depressick are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chronic Condition" and "Заглушая боль внутри II".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric and depressive post black metal. 8 out of 10.
