WinterMoonShade are a band from Portugal that plays a very melodic and aggressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 album which will be released in December by Black Spark Records.
A nature orientated intro starts off the album along with some dark yet heavy and melodic riffing a few seconds later. Whispered vocals can also be heard briefly while the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the vocals are grim yet high pitched black metal screams while the faster sections of the track also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times the music also shows an influence of the 90's Swedish era but keeping it modern at the same time, synths can also be heard in the background at times and the album closes with some classical guitars. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, nature and winter themes.
In my opinion WinterMoonShade are a very great sounding atmospheric, melodic and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Walking Into Dusk" "Legends & Myst" and "Yellow Eyes Thunder". 8 out of 10.
