Ordo Cultum Serpentis are an international duo with embers from South Korea and Mexico that plays a ritualistic and ambient mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Derej Najash" which will be released on February 12th by Signal Rex.
Ritualistic soundscapes start off the ep along with some chanting a few seconds later while the music also brings in elements of ambient. The slower sections of the songs also bring in the heaviness of doom metal as well as both of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals also add in a decent mixture of both black metal screams and bestial death metal growls. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Ordo Cultum Serpentis plays a musical style that takes ritual, ambient, occult black, doom and death metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Left Hand Path, Occultism and Ritualistic themes.
In my opinion Ordo Cultum Serpentis are a very great sounding ambient and ritualistic mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDE TRACK "Chapter One". 8 out of 10.
