LuZi are a solo project from Italy that plays a mixture of post black metal and trip hop and this is a review of his 2021 ep "Fulmine" which was released by Retro Vox Records.
Field recordings and spoken word parts start off the ep before adding in some post rock style clean playing. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also beings in a great amount of trip hop elements and the vocals are mostly black metal screams.
The heavier sections of the songs also capture a very lo-fi atmosphere while the faster sections of the tracks also add in a decent amount of blast beats. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling and throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When acoustic guitars are utilized they also show an influence of folk music along with the songs also having their experimental moments as well as all of the drum beats also being programmed, clean vocals can also be heard at times and the solos and leads are also done in a very distorted style and the closing track also adds in touches of punk rock. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover folklore themes.
In my opinion LuZi is a very great sounding mixture of post black metal and trip hop and if you are a fan of t hose musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fullmine" and "Lungoparma". 8 out of 10.
