Norway's solo project Myrholt has returned with a new recording which continues the old school style of Norwegian black metal that he has established on previous releases and this is a review of his self released 2021 album "...sjelbot...".
A very melodic and atmospheric sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the solos and leads also adding in a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the tracks also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast part. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also mixing the classic Norwegian style in with the more modern era.
Clear pagan vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with one of the tracks also adding in a brief use of synths as well as some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly. one of the songs also introduces clean playing and acoustic guitars onto the album. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover Nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Myrholt and if you are a fan of Norwegian black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blod er Liv, Pust Er Sjel" "Morgenstjernen" and "Saa Odioes, Saa Motbydelig". 8 out of 10.
