Dallas, Texas's Cara Neir have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a video game orientated form of post black metal and this is a review of their self released 2021 album "Phase Out".
Video game samples start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs while the faster sections of the tracks also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with the riffs also adding in some melodies.
Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the music also brings in elements of grindcore. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some clean playing also being utilized at times and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Synths are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with some post hardcore style screams and influences also being added into certain sections of the album as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, some of the tracks also add in clean vocals and programmed beats are also a very huge part of the songs. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover video games and science fiction themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cara Neir and if you are a fan of experimental and post black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Trimjrtile Sanction" "Valkyrie" "Maestro Infernus" and "Legacy of Gnax". 8 out of 10.
