1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hey. The band was formed only a year ago. It was a very busy year. At the beginning we acted as a duo. In February 2020 we recorded a demo and due to our old friend Jesusatan from Apocalyptic Rites Zine Morgul from Putrid Cult listened this shit. He liked it so much that he offered us to release an album. At that time, Void joined us and took up the position of vocalist and bassist. We immediately started composing and in July the recordings were in full swing. Exactly on the first anniversary of our activity, we received a package from Morgul with CD's and merch. We are currently starting preparations for playing concerts when the Reptilians will unlock the world.
2.In February you have your first full length coming out, musically how does it differ from your previous demo?
It does not differ significantly. The full album is an explication of what was included in the demo. UTA is not a band that will develop musically with subsequent releases. Any signs of progress is fatal to the music we make. Instead, regress is indicated. The only difference is that we are more aware and consistent in the chosen path.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
We are not very original. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel. We follow the old school of metal and classical themes for the genre. As in the case of music, we adhere to the principle: zero progress
4.Most of the band members are also in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Upon The Altar' that you are not able to do with your other groups?
I can only speak for myself, but I know the rest of the team feels the same. UTA is for us a return to the beginnings of playing metal. We wanted to feel the atmosphere from years ago, when we took our first steps in Metal. And we felt. The other bands have their own bigger or smaller ambitions. UTA, on the other hand, is our manifesto of uncompromisingness. It is Metal of Death in its purest form. Made by the Devil and for the Devil.
5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Upon The Altar'?
The name was taken from the title of Blapshemy "Blood upon the altar", of course. There is nothing strange and mysterious about it. Of course we follow and pay tribute to the Greatest Classics of the Genre.
6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
We used a graphic made by Jean Duvet, a French Renaissance goldsmith and engraver. It perfectly complements the atmosphere of our music and lyrics.
bTo and Sars were responsible for the entire layout.
we are very pleased with the final result.
7.Originally the band started out as a duo but recently expanded into the trio, what was the decision behind adding in another member?
Playing these songs live. we don't want to remain a studio project. the material has a concert potential and we want to use it. besides, I didn't feel comfortable being a vocalist and drummer. I'm not the almighty Mike Browning. We have known Void for many years, he is a great singer, musician and frontman with charisma. We hope that UTA will make its concert debut soon.
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?
As for a band out of nowhere, we surprisingly get only positive reviews and reactions. Of course it's not music for everyone and we know that. We do not have excessive ambitions for a career. We just want to be another brick that makes up the walls of the Great House of Satan.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Literally: we're not going anywhere. We want to be exactly where we are. I have already written about it before. We will record the same dingy and ugly albums. And we will not develop in any direction that is more pleasing to the ear. We want to cause earache.
10.What are you currently listening to nowadays?
This may sound strange but I'm not listening to anything at the moment. I have times when I listen to music compulsively. I can not stop. There are also times when I don't listen to anything for a long time. my mind and ears reset.
11.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?
Of course, these are important, but not the only, components of the overall UTA message. They provide a cultural background for the stories told by Void. There is a certain ritualism in music as well. Especially when it comes to rhythm solutions. The drums play their hypnotic rhythms. It all came out by itself, without our calculations.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
No. Thanx. Take care.
