Plasmodium are a band from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a psychedelic mixture of black an death metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Towers Of Silence" which will be released in April by Transcending Obscurity Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also adds in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats,. Vocals are a mixture of grim black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style when they are utilized.
At times the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding while whispers can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also having its psychedelic moments and the tracks also mix in a great amount of death metal elements.
Growls can also be heard at times along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as some songs also bringing in more of an atmospheric direction, some of the drumming also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling as the album progresses and on the closing track a small amount of industrial metal style vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover undulating psychedelic darkness.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Plasmodium and if you are a fan of psychedelic black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pseudocidal" and "Vertixginous". 8 out of 10.
