Mournful Winter are a band from Germany that plays an depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "In Death A Bliss".
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding synths a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction which also introduces high pitched black metal screams which also have a depressive tone at times while t he solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling while clean playing, stringed instruments, and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and they also bring in an ambient instrumental and at times the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences.
Mournful Winter plays a style of black metal that has a lot of old school elements but also adds in touches of the earlier depressive sound to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Mournful Winter are a very great sounding depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Death A Bliss" and "Spectral Visions Of The Abyss". 8 out of 10.
