Trautonist are a band from Germany that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of post black metal and shoegaze and this is a review of their 2018 album "Ember" which will be released in May by Wolves And Vibrancy Records.
A very hard shoegaze influenced sound starts off the album along with some clean vocals a few seconds later while the music also gets very atmospheric at times as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the solos and leads are done in a very melodic post rock style.
Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the songs also bring in a great amount of angry sounding black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling as well as the tracks also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when clean guitars are utilized they give the music more of a progressive feeling.
Trautonist creates another recording that remains true to their mixture of post black metal and shoegaze, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover alienation, drugs and melancholic themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Trautonist and if you are a fan of post black metal and shoegaze, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fire And Ember" "The Garden" and "Sunwalk". 8 out of 10.
