Skyborne Reveries are a solo project from Australia that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Winter Lights" which will be released in May by Naturmacht Productions.
Ambient style synths start off the album and also mix in with the heavier sections of the music while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion along with the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams as well as the riffs also using a great amount of melody and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the music gets very atmospheric at times and when the music speeds up briefly on a few tracks a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the music sticking to mostly a slower direction and as the album progresses an ambient instrumental can also be heard before returning back to a heavier direction.
Skyborne Reveries plays a style of black metal that is very epic and atmospheric sounding while also adding in a great amount of ambient elements, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover an idea of ascending to a dreamlike realm and becoming one with the natural forces of the world.
In my opinion Skyborne Reveries are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Winter Lights" "The Forgotten" and "Of Mountains And Tranquil Skies". 8 out of 10.
