Chile's Animus Mortis have returned with a new recording which is done in the atmospheric style of black metal and this is a review of their live 2020 album "Exhibitions Of Devotion" which was released by Iron, Bllood & Death Corp..
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with some live audience reaction before going into a heavier musical direction. The vocals are done in a very grim yet deep style while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of black metal tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The riffs also add in a decent amount of distorted sounding melodies and clean singing is also added into some parts of the recording.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding as well as having its atmospheric and dissonant moments which is also present on some of the guitar leads along with a couple of tracks also introducing spoken word parts and clean vocals onto the recording. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover metaphysics and hermeticism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Animus Mortis and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out this live album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ambivalant Aura" "Thresholds Of Insanity" "LVX" and "The Pilgrimage". 8 out of 10.
