Death Noize Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Times: Death Nöize was formed in 2010 by NKF while me, Times joined to the rank in 2012 right before the recordings of the debut album. In that very same year, already as a 4 piece band we finished the composing of material and recorded our first album entitled ’Conquest War Famine Death’ which released by Metal Ör Die Records on CD format. Musically speaking this album was a fusion of Apocalyptic Crust and Black Metal. We were and still are heavily influenced by this two genres. In terms of our lyrics, from the very beginning they were always about dark foklore, occultism and death worship.
In 2017 we recorded our second album ’Fullmoon Fury Ritual’ for Finnish underground stronghold Bestial Burst, I did not handle the vocals on this one due to personal issues so NKF asked a session vocalist named D., who did a really great job. But I also took my part out of the creative work as I came up with the title, I did the cover artwork and I think I wrote a good part of the lyrics too, which were about the very same subject.
2020, the year of pandemia gave birth to our third opus ’Rites, Curses and Spells’ which will be out by our former labels (Metal Ör Die Records and Bestial Burst) and by our very own Deathlike Noise Productions, strictly limited to 250 copies on black vinyl. No fancy die-hard versions, no different colors, just as simple as it was in the glory days of the underground (just think of Sombre Records (RIP) and No Colours’ early releases).

NKF: Hails, Death Nöize formed in 2010 by NKF (guitars), KJ (drums) and Z (bass). The arrangements happened quite fast, and in a few rehearsals we composed the whole material. The recordings happened in 2011 just in 2 days, while the vocals have been recorded in 2012.
The second material have been recorded in 2013 also in 2 days. Times couldn’t handle the vocal duties due to his above mentioned personal issues, so I asked a friend of mine D. The album have been ready and released in 2017. The session musicians who helped us out on this album are D., Pestifer and Harald Mentor, hail to Them!
Our new drummer Speed Freak joined to us in 2015. The musical material of ’Rites, Curses and Spells’ written within the period 2015-2018, but again due to some serious issues we could work just very slowly. Finally in March 2020, during the lockdown, as a 3 piece band already, we had enough time to finish the recordings of ’Rites, Curses and Spells’!

2.Recently you have released a new album, musicallyhow does it differ from the stuff you havereleased in the past?

Times: Lyrical themes are still the very same, dark folklore (in a bigger dose now), occultism, rites and death worship. But some significant changes occured since the first two albums. This new album is more straightforward old sytle traditional Black Metal which was a concious decision of us. Good example to make it more significant we changed our logo as well. It doesn’t mean we won’t use different musical elements on our future releases but that is what we felt now straight out of our wretched black hearts. Vintage Black Magic Metal Devotion.

3.The lyrics on the new album cover deadly rites, curses and black magick spells, can you tellus a little bit more about your interest in occultism and the dark arts?

Times: The first 3 songs (Side Black) tells a fictive horror like story, inspired by Transylvanian tales and dark folk stories, the themes of last 4 songs (Side Magic) varies but still about Transylvanian/Hungarian (dark) folk tales, old values and stories about the Old Devil.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Death Nöize'?

Times: NKF came up with the name, he is a die-hard fan of Incriminated (the old band of our label boss Harald Mentor, you can see we have a long story together with him) and Incriminated had an MLP back then entitled ’Death Nöize’.

NKF: Actually it was the idea Lugosi of Siculicidium. He came up with the idea as he knew how huge fan of Incriminated I am and he thought this name would perfectly fit to this rotten black/crust style we played.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Times: I had this cover artwork in my mind since many years. We borrowed it from the 1922 Swedish cult silent film ’Haxan’. When I started to work on the lyrics I felt this is the right time to use this picture as a cover art. I think we made the right choice, perfectly fits to the evil, dark and occult aura of the album.

6.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

Times: No, not yet. There were talks about it but so far nothing serious happened on this field, but NKF knows this better than me. Actually I can imagine Death Nöize on stage in a form of a deathly ritual but we are living almost 1000 kilometers far from each other, so I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.

NKF: Well, we are living very far from each other, we never even had a rehearsal session with full line-up, so it would be quite difficult. I still do plan to summon the evil on stage with Death Nöize one day, maybe in the distant future…

7.On the new album you also had some session work from one of the members from 'Ride For Revenge', can you tell us a littlebit more about his contribution to the recording?

Times: As I told you we have a long story together. We borrowed our name from his old band, and he released our second album on his label Bestial Burst, he already played on that one as well as a session musician. And now he is playing again with us on our new album. We are a 3 piece band now, I can say he is our fourth member.

8.The new album was also released on many different labels, can you tell us a little bit more about the labels you have worked with on the new release?

Times: Metal Ör Die Records is a Hungarian label and an old comrade of us, we worked with him on our first album back in 2012 (along with many others), Bebu from Finalnd as you see above a kind of a home to us. Deathlike Noise Productions is our/my very own label, what we started to support this project, but I think we will come up with some more releases soon.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of underground metal?

Times: I wouldn’t think that so many people knows about Death Nöize. We are an absolute anti-trend band, keeping ourselves anonymous, no concerts, no band photos until now, this is our second interview I think over the 8 years of our existence. So you can imagine our attitude. But now, again very conciously, we changed a bit on this matter. I think we did a very strong offer with this new one, and we would like to reach the people with it, so we will put more energy into the promotion of the material now. We will see how the people will react, but we are very proud of this dark art entitled ’Rites, Curses and Spells’.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Times: We are already working on something new in the very same style as this new album, more traditional Black Metal.

NKF: We already have some new ideas, some sketches. We will record something new for sure, but do not ask where and when. What is for sure we will deliver the same sinistrous grime as we did in the past.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Times: Black Metal, Death Metal, No future and evil Thrash, Apocalyptic Crust, Rock n’ Roll.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Times: If anyone is interested after this conversation about our album they can order the vinyl from Death Nöize/Deathlike Noize Productions bandcamp: https://deathnoize.bandcamp.com/
Or feel free to email us: deathlikenoize@gmail.com
