Kraken Duumvirate are a duo from Finland that plays an experimental and occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "The Stars Below, The Seas Above" which will be released in October by Silent Future Recordings.
Clean playing starts off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard on a few tracks before going into a heavier doom metal direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also mix in a decent amount of atmospheric sounding synths and experimental elements.
A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while grim sounding black metal screams and demonic voices are also a very huge part of the recording. At times the music also gets very ritualistic sounding along with a couple of the tracks also being instrumentals.
All of the drum beats are programmed as well as the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style. All of the musical instruments that are present on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some clean singing also being added into the background briefly, all of the music also sticks to a slower direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism, Oceanic Legends and Cosmic Horror themes.
In my opinion Kraken Duumvirate are a very great sounding occult and experimental mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Star-Spawn" and "Queen Arise".8 out of 10.
