Russia's Epitimia have returned with a new recording which shows the music going into more of an atmospheric post black metal direction and this is a review of their 2020 album "Allusion" which will be released in October by Onism Productions.
Atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with some clean playing and programmed beats which also introduce elements of post rock onto the recording before going into a heavier musical direction. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
The riffs also add in a great amount of melody while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some violins also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as a later track also adding acoustic guitars onto the album which also adds in a touch of folk music, clean vocals can also be heard briefly and as the album progresses a brief use of growls can also be hears. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover inner struggle themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Epitimia and if you are a fan of atmospheric post black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Animist" "Altered State Of Consciousness" and "Post Scriptum". 8 out of 10.
