Misertus are a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal and this is a review of his 2020 triple album compilation "Daydream/Coil/Outland" which was released by Onism Productions and consists of 3 albums that he had released in 2019.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the compilation along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and clean playing can also be heard on some of the riffs.
The songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Elements of post rock can also be heard at times along with the tracks also having their atmospheric moments as well as one track also introducing synths onto the compilation.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with this practice being utilized more on the later albums. Clean vocals are also introduced on the second album that is presented on the compilation as well as one of the tracks also being an instrumental, a later song also adds some prog elements onto the compilation.
Whispered vocals can also be heard briefly as well as the synths on the 3rd album also introducing elements of ambient onto the compilation. At times the music also has its dissonant and dreamlike moments along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of drones. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover melancholic and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Misertus are a very great sounding atmospheric post black metal solos project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Red Ghosts" "Ions" "Conjoined" and "Aether (A Distant Ember)". 8 out of 10.
