France's Dysylum have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a progressive black metal style and this is a review of their 2020 album "Cosmogonie" which will be released in October by Signal Rex.
A very dark sounding synth orientated intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw black metal musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they arr done in a very melodic style along with some clean vocals also being utilized at times.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the vocals are mostly death metal growls. A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some elements of doom metal being added into the slower sections of the songs.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals also having their grim moments as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and as the album progresses synths also make a brief return before returning back to a heavier direction, at times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding and towards the end touches of ambient can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are divided into 4 different chapters and cover psychological themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dysylum and if you are a fan of progressive black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Apparition I" "Dispersion II" and "Extinction III". 8out of 10.
