Ba'al are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of post black and sludge metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Elipsism" which will b e released in October by Clobber Records.
A very distorted sound starts off the album while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Blast beats are also utilized during the faster sections of the songs while high pitched black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording and the riffs also add in a great amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also bringing in a great amount of post metal elements and the slow riffs also add in the heaviness of sludge metal.
The vocals also add in deep growls into some part of the songs along with the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style as well as a couple of the tracks also being brief instrumentals and introducing clean playing onto the recording and as the album progresses atmospheric sounding synths, stringed instruments and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover sadness and melancholy themes.
In my opinion Ba'al are a very great sounding mixture of post black and sludge metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Long Live" "Tarred And Feathered" and "Rosalia". 8out of 10.
