Corr Mhona are a band from Ireland that plays a mixture of pagan black, doom, death metal and traditional Irish music and this is a review of their 2021 album "Abhainn" which will be released in April by Negre planY.
Water sounds start off the album along with some horn instruments a few seconds later while the clean vocals are very heavily rooted in traditional Irish music. Acoustic guitars can also be heard on some of the tracks along with the heavier riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and elements of doom metal are also added in the slower sections of the songs.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with high pitched black metal screams also being a very huge part of the recording.
The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as some death metal growls also being added into certain sections of the recording. Whispered vocals are also utilized at times and when acoustic guitars are utilized they also add in touches of folk music, as the album progresses an instrumental can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Irish and is a concept album based upon water and the rivers of Ireland.
In my opinion Corr Mhona are a very great sounding mixture of pagan black, doom, death metal and traditional Irish music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "An Laoi" "Banda" "An tSlaine" and "An tSulain". 8 out of 10.
