Fluisterwoud where a band from the Netherlands that played a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 1998 demo "Een sinister schouwspel" which was re-issued in 20220 on 7 inch vinyl by Nomad Snakepit.
A nature oriented intro starts off the demo along with some synths and whispered voices a few seconds later before going into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams that are mixed down low in the mix.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while clean playing can also be heard briefly. Most of the riffing is very power chord driven along with the songs avoiding the use of any melody or any solos and leads to focus more on a heavier and rawer direction.
Fluisterwoud played a style of black metal that was very raw and mostly rooted in the second wave style that dominated the genre in the mid 90's. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover terror and the end of the world themes.
In my opinion Fluisterwoud where a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cernunnos Toorn" and "Een sinister schouwspel". 8 out of 10.
