Valosta Varjoon are a duo from Germany that has been featured before in this zine and plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Das Flammenmeer" which will be released on March 21st by Purity Through Fire.
Fire burning sound and early 20th century marching music sounds start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the music also adding in a decent amount of 90's and early 2000's era.
The riffs also bring in a great amount of dark sounding melodies along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them and one of the tracks also adds in a brief use of clean playing. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover history about Neumarkt, patriotism, melancholy misanthropy and anti life themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Valosta varjoon and if you are a fan of old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Das Flammenmeer" "Gspusi" and "Der Krahentisch". 8 out of 10.
